How you can benefit from our agency partnerships

MarkMonitor works closely with law enforcement agencies across the globe to reduce the sale and impact of counterfeit goods and pirated content.

Participation in these operations is free to brand owners, but it requires close coordination with the law enforcement agencies. MarkMonitor helps brand owners track these operations and submit infringing websites for take-down.

Here is a look at some of the key operations in which MarkMonitor participates:

Operation Pangea

Operation Pangea is organised by Interpol and has been in existence since 2008.

This operation aims to reduce the sale and availability of counterfeit pharmaceuticals online with the active goal to reduce harms to Internet users and improve the internet experience. In 2018, Interpol seized more than 10 million units at a value of approximately US$14M. More than 3,671 websites were taken down as a result of this operation.

Operation IOS

Europol’s hugely successful and long-standing Operation “In Our Sites” (IOS) focuses on the removal of counterfeit sites online across European domain names. This operation utilizes multiple police agencies across Europe and last year 20,520 domain names were seized from accounts worth over $1M Euros.

Operation Aphrodite

Operation Aphrodite focuses exclusively on counterfeit sales on social media and websites.

This operation is run with the cooperation of Europol and of agencies in Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. In 2018, more than 20,000 counterfeit packages were seized and more than 1,000 social media accounts were shut down as a result of the operation.

Operation Creative

This operation by the London Police’s IP Crime Unit is relatively new and aims is to disrupt and prevent websites from providing unauthorised access to copyrighted content.

With a wealth of UK advertising and music content organisations involved including the Internet Advertising Bureau UK (IAB UK), BPI (British Phonographic Industry), IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), and PRS for Music, Operation Creative suspends and removes pirated content as well as advertising.

These law enforcement operations, in addition to others including Operation Chargewell, Operation Ashiko, and Operation Sanction, are available to any MarkMonitor client and are fully supported by MarkMonitor team members. Operations can vary with regards to application process and some do require the provision of detailed documentation, so if brands would like to find out more information on any of these operations and how they can be beneficial to you or your clients, please reach out to MarkMonitor’s GRM Team for further information.
